TL;DR — 30-Second Summary
- #1 Astegon — Mining Lv 7, the highest in the game. 30% faster than Anubis. Found in volcano (Lv 40+).
- Best overall: Anubis — Mining Lv 6 + Handiwork Lv 6 + Transport Lv 4. The most versatile worker Pal. Breedable from Lv 19.
- Best early game: Digtoise — Mining Lv 4, easy to find (desert, Lv 20+). Good until you get Anubis.

Top 10 Mining Pals — Ranked
1. Astegon — Mining Lv 7
Also: Handiwork Lv 3 | Element: Dragon/Dark | Location: Volcano (Lv 40+)
- Why #1: Mining Lv 7 is 30% faster than Anubis's Lv 6. One Astegon can replace 2 Digtoises. Also flies (1100 sprint speed) and fights well.
- Catch difficulty: Hard — volcano Alpha boss (Lv 48). Bring Ice-type Pals.
- Alternative: Anubis (Mining Lv 6) — breedable, easier to get, also excellent at Handiwork.
2. Anubis — Mining Lv 6
Also: Handiwork Lv 6, Transport Lv 4 | Element: Ground | Location: Desert Alpha boss or breed
- Why #2: Most versatile worker in the game. Mining Lv 6 is close to Astegon, plus Handiwork Lv 6 means it crafts while waiting for ore to respawn. Transport Lv 4 moves ore to storage.
- How to get: Breedable from Lv 19 using many combinations. Use the Breeding Calculator to find the cheapest pair.
- Best for: Your main base. Anubis mines, crafts, AND transports — it's a one-Pal workforce.
3. Digtoise — Mining Lv 4
Element: Ground | Location: Desert (Lv 20+)
- Why #3: The classic early-access mining Pal. Easy to find in the desert at Lv 20+. Reliable mid-game miner.

- Best for: Lv 20-30 players building their first dedicated mining base.
4. Reptyro — Mining Lv 4
Also: Kindling Lv 3 | Element: Fire/Ground | Location: Volcano (Lv 30+)

What About Coal & Sulfur?
Coal and sulfur are mined the EXACT same way as ore. The same Pals mine all resource nodes — no difference.
| Resource | Used For | Found In | Best Base |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ore | Ingots, basic crafting | Everywhere (most in volcano/snow) | Any base |
| Coal | Refined Ingots (Lv 34+) | Volcano, snow, desert | Volcano or Snow base |
| Sulfur | Gunpowder (Lv 40+) | Volcano primarily | Volcano base |
Build Ore Mining Site or Coal Mining Site at your base for automated passive production. These structures allow Pals to mine infinitely without natural nodes respawning.
How to Set Up an Automated Mining Base
Step-by-Step
- Choose a location — Volcano or snow area has the most ore/coal nodes. See Best Base Locations.
- Build Palbox + Feed Box + Berry Plantation (Pals need food to work)
- Build 2-3 Ore Mining Sites (Lv 24, 50 Stone + 25 Paldium each) — this is what Pals mine for infinite ore
- Assign 3-5 mining Pals — at least 2 Anubis or 1 Astegon + 1 Anubis
- Assign 1-2 Transport Pals — Pals with Transport move ore from mining sites to storage boxes. Anubis has Transport Lv 4 built in.
- Build multiple Storage Boxes — ore fills up fast. 1 box per 2 miners is a good ratio.
- Build Smelter (or multiple) — assign Kindling Pals to smelt ore into Ingots automatically
Efficiency tip: Place Storage Boxes as close to Mining Sites as possible. Reduces Transport Pal travel time by ~60%.
Common Problems & Fixes
| Problem | Why | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| "Ore nodes aren't being mined" | No Pals with Mining assigned | Check Pal assignment in Palbox. Mining Pals must have Mining work suitability. |
| "Storage boxes full, mining stopped" | No free storage space | Build more Storage Boxes (10 Wood each). Ore stacks 999 per slot — one box = 39,960 ore capacity. |
| "Pals wander instead of mining" | Feed Box empty / no task priority | Keep Feed Box stocked. Mining Pals auto-prioritize ore nodes — if they're wandering, all nodes are on cooldown. |
| "Coal isn't being mined separately" | Coal nodes share ore node behavior | Build a Coal Mining Site (separate structure) and assign Mining Pals to it specifically. |
| "Anubis won't mine, keeps crafting" | Anubis has Handiwork Lv 6 — it prioritizes crafting | Assign Anubis to Mining Site directly (approach it, press F, select "Assign to Mining Site"). This overrides default behavior. |
